Camaley Jennings

Seventeen year old Camaley Jennings has philanthropically surpassed her teenage counterparts when it comes to fully engaging herself in the community. Camaley, a student at Xavier College Preparatory, is the founder of Fresh Foundations, her own nonprofit organization that provides undergarments for those who have escaped domestic violence. Each spring this bright young woman hosts an annual tea party to raise funds for the purchase of undergarments for Sojourner Center, the nation’s largest domestic violence shelter. At her event, Underpinnings for New Beginnings, hosted at the Ritz-Carlton in Phoenix, guests are encouraged to bring underwear, bras, socks and undershirts for the 280 women and children Sojourner Center serves each day. Guests also have the opportunity to learn more about the issue of domestic violence and how it not only affects grown women but also teens as well. Miss Jennings’ also continuously donates over 40 hours per year at Sojourner Center’s shelter campuses in addition to her annual event. Her ongoing work ranges from sorting donations to filling basic necessities bags for the women and children when they first arrive at our shelter. In addition to her work at Sojourner Center, Miss Jennings is also an active member of the Brophy-Xavier Key Club, one of the world’s largest. Miss Jennings also donates her time at Andre House with her fellow classmates on a regular basis. She is also a classically trained ballerina and trained with Ballet Arizona from age 4 – 13. Camaley currently dances at Xavier and is a new member of the National Honor Society as a result of her outstanding dance talent. She plans to continue dancing ballet while attending college on the east coast in the fall of 2011. Sojourner Center is honored to nominate Camaley Jennings for the Tru Teen of the Week award. Miss Jennings is a true leader in our community who showcases herself as a positive role model to other teens and young women. She has a natural ability to engage others in her mission to serve those who have suffered as a result of domestic violence or who have found themselves living in homelessness.
